A love story
Juan Bonet, a fisherman from Formentera, fell in love with Andrea, a woman from Soria, during his time as a sailor. They were so happy together that they took on a job that forced them to spend all their time together, without any other human presence: for 14 years they watched over and cared for the uninhabited island of s’Espalmador, which is privately owned.
In 1971, they decided to open up a small beach bar on Playa Illetes. At that time, the only way to reach this beach was by sea, and it was patronised by boats coming from Ibiza. Juan went out fishing and Andrea served up the delicacies he caught on that idyllic beach. Over time, a road was made to reach the area by land and it became popular.
The business grew and grew, and now the couple’s three children, Juanjo, Andrés and Jorge, have taken the reigns of this top-quality establishment, probably the most historic of Formentera restaurants.
